Iraq militants hacked US drones

“Militants in Iraq have used $26 off-the-shelf software to intercept live video feeds from U.S. Predator drones, potentially providing them with information they need to evade or monitor U.S. military operations”, the online version of the Wall Street Journal reported today.

Shiite fighters used programs from the internet, like SkyGrabber, to capture videofeeds from the drones. An apparent security flaw in the drones communication system made this possible. The insurgents were not able to control the drones or alter their flightpath.

Researches in the Arizona University have genetically engineered cyanobacteria that “self-destruct” by dissolving from inside out. This eliminates the problem of getting out the bio-fuel from organisms.

Since the cyanobacteria are photosynthetic microbes, you could say… it is solar power ;-) And let’s hope these bacteria stay in the lab, before they become a widely spread dissolving disaster.

Why the big fuzz? People panic when a mysterious spiral appears over the Norwegian night sky on Tuesday? “Speculation was increasing today that the display was the result of an embarrassing failed test launch of a jinxed new Russian missile.” says the UK newspaper Daily Mail.

Well… it sure looks beautiful, doesn’t it. But let’s not get too excited about those Russian experiments yet. This apparent special effect for a Norwegian remake of the eighties hit ” The Philadelphia Project” should make you nervous though. See the BLUE shimmering light emanating from the center? Isn’t that like some leaked radioactive cloud? “Captain! The starboard cell has been hit. We are venting plasma!!”
